Forward Emmanuel Arnold Okwi has replaced Denis Masinde Onyango as the new Uganda Cranes captain.
Denis Onyango retired from international football in April this year after falling out with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) over matters concerning bonuses and monies the Cranes players demanded.
The Al Ittihad Alexandria winger has 82 caps with the Cranes scoring 26 goals.
“Representing Uganda is a privilege that I don’t take for granted. I am deeply honoured to be named captain by the Uganda Cranes coach.”
“I appreciate the technical bench and my teammates for their trust. I also thank all the fans for their continued support for the national team.”
Okwi represented Uganda at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament in Egypt and scored two goals.
He will lead Uganda during the international friendly with South Africa on June 10th at the Orlando Stadium.
